Nobu Hotel London Portman Square, the 13th hotel to open for the iconic brand founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and Meir Teper, has partnered with House of Suntory’s Roku Gin to create a Japanese inspired gin garden in the heart of London’s Marylebone. The Roku Japanese Gin Garden is now open at Nobu Portman Square and is treating guests to an authentic taste of Haru (Japanese spring) from the floral and sweet aroma of cherry blossom in the Roku Gin cocktails to the unmistakably spring-like ambiance found on the terrace, ornately designed, for this exclusive experience.

Launched on 30 April to coincide with Japan’s famous Golden Week – a weeklong national holiday with festivals, parades and events for viewing Sakura flowers – the gin garden incorporates natural and organic elements of indigenous Japanese flora and foliage with soft pink lanterns that recreate the unmistakable glow of Sakura flowers bringing Haru to the city. With exceptional Japanese craftsmanship at the heart of both Nobu Hotel London Portman Square and Roku Gin, guests can expect the best bespoke food, drinks and service.

Open for lunch and dinner, guests can experience signature dishes from the Nobu Restaurant menu, from Nigiri & Sashimi to classic Bento Boxes, as well as Nobu’s famous Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Jalapeño. These world-famous dishes will be served alongside Roku Gin’s perfectly balanced combination of six traditional botanicals, the first and only gin made by Japan’s legendary Suntory distillery.

Based upon the Japanese culinary concept of ‘shun’ – to enjoy food and drink in their proper season – each cocktail will include ingredients harvested at the peak of their flavour, from the Sakura flower harvested in the spring to green tea in the summer. Designed to bring the spirit of the seasons alive, the cocktail menu will include:

Shun Martini
Mixed to order, guests can choose from Roku Gin or Toki Whiskey and two different flavour combinations – Raspberry and Sakura or Green Tea and Peach

Seasons Negroni
A choice of Roku Gin, Haku Vodka or Toki Whiskey, combined with floral notes of Sakura or a refreshingly citrus blend of Yuzu and Green Tea

Roku Gin & Tonic
A G&T with a Japanese twist, garnished with sticks of fresh ginger

Smokey Tobacco Toki
Toki Whisky combined with Tobacco Liquor, Sakura syrup, Noilly Pratt Chocolate bitters and Smoky Ginger Ale

A true embodiment of the Japanese concept of ‘shun’, every aspect of Roku Gin is crafted by Japanese artisans capturing ingredients in its ideal moment from the best growing areas in Japan. The ingredients are specifically prepared, and each treated differently – a testament to the House of Suntory’s commitment to Monozukuri craftmanship. Once combined they blend harmoniously, offering a pleasurable moment with every sip.

A programme of Roku Gin masterclasses and Ikebana (the art of Japanese flower arrangement) workshops will also be available to book, with the full schedule available to view on the Nobu Hotel London Portman Square website from May.

Located on a prominent corner of Marylebone’s Portman Square, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square features 249 rooms and suites, The Nobu Penthouse, a signature Nobu Restaurant and Nobu Bar and the new Nobu Wellness Centre. There will also be a 600-person ballroom, launching in August 2021.

The Roku Japanese Gin Garden at Nobu Portman Square will be open until 31 July 2021.
