Can you describe a typical day at Edrington-Beam Suntory UK?
My typical day depends on what day of the month we are on. Working days one and two for a commercial finance analyst tend to be the busiest when we are closing the previous month for our shareholders. I support the route-to-market regions and also our food and licensing team, Thomas Lowndes. This involves reporting the closing numbers for Thomas Lowndes to our shareholders. For each of these areas there will be various ad hoc requests throughout the month. I support their team meetings and channel meetings on a monthly basis, working with the national account managers to build new scenarios for customers / brands and review any variances to budget or forecast.
What is your favourite part of the role?
The most rewarding part of my role is being able to support the wider business, making someone else’s job that little bit easier for them. Helping non-financially trained individuals learn their way around the numbers to benefit themselves and our business needs. I get a great sense of achievement from always being able to develop and increase my understanding and skill set and then passing this onto others.
What do you find challenging?
Every role comes with its challenges, tight deadlines and last minute requests for something that was due yesterday do come up. This can be challenging but I feel I work well, if not better, when under pressure.
Any advice for others looking to move into commercial finance within the drinks industry?
Advice I would give is to remain positive and don’t be complacent, treat every challenge as an opportunity to show your worth and develop yourself.
Finally - the most important question - what is your favourite serve?
My favourite serve changes often, there is too much to choose from! My favourite today would be a Jim Beam Double Oak and Ginger Ale.
